IWC

In my case, after so many watches the whole thing becomes cloying.  How many watches can you wear, after all.  Of course, this doesn’t refer to those who actually collect: Rolex GMTs, for instance.

with 120 hour power reserve (5-days) and silicon escape wheel and pallet lever.... not exactly a primitive movement, but the asking price for a new Ingenieur is quite steep.

What does this actually mean though? Are you saying the movement breaks easily? If so why do IWC feel able to offer 8yr warranties? Or are you saying it takes more turns to wind the watch?

I have VC's, IWC's, JLC's and Panerai's with the extended warranty and they have been rock solid.

Actually my watchmaker friend holds 3 watches with this movement at the same time because of the lever problem. I'm not saying it will 100% have this problem, but the probability seems to be very high.

I have no idea about movements, honestly speaking. As long as the watch runs fine and doesn't break down, I don't care what movement is powering the watch. That's just me, and I understand everyone has their own priorities.

Waiting for IWC to release the adjustable buckle in Titanium, and it will be difficult to resist.

i tried this one and was also seduced. Historically IWC has used run-of-the-mill mouvements, sometimes with a decorated rotor and not much more. This does not scream good value but it is a nice piece. Second hand values can be a good indicator that brands have overstretched the retail price tag, as could be the case here

But in my view the movement is a very weak point, especially for the price. 

IWC always relied on third party movements: ETA in Aquatimers and Mark XXx watches, Valjoux 7750 in chronographs. Even their grand complication is Valjoux 7750 based. IWC always improved upon and finished the "basic" movements to the high standards. So I would see the use of these movements more of the company DNA. If the movement still bothers you however, I would suggest you look at the original Jumbo Ingenieur. There will be a cost difference though.

It's super light and slim. Very accurate with no discernible deviation when worn a few days.

Mine has been a true daily for over a year, and aside from lack of micro-adjust (I don't like the retrofit buckle option) I don't have a single complaint. The only thing noticeable about the movement is how great it is not having to reset it if it has been off the wrist for a while, the 5 day power reserve is such a bonus for real world use.

But the MSRP is not worth it, especially with this basic movement. I’d wait to find the right one, at pre owned prices, and the value proposition increases exponentially 

It last for 5 days which is fantastic.
And while movement us important, it is not “be all” for me.
Sure, it could be more fancy and the time piece could have an open case back to show it, but it is within a soft iron case so..

Either way, I love the watch. I wear basically every other day. I love that it is 40mm. I love how it feels and looks.
The whole bracelet adjustment issue is a point of annoyance as I don’t find the adjustment buckle very fitting or clever. Fortunately enough I don’t need it, but for a watch called Ingenieur it should have been addressed earlier and had a better solution (VC).

If I could change something about the watch it would be the adjustment buckle issue, remove the crown guards, make the case and bracelet thinner and introduce titanium and or other “smart” metals.
Different dial colour would be great as well; more subdued colours.

Did a little mockup with washed red and brown, without the crown guard:

They claimed it’s still 100m water resistant. However the crown still slips but I just wind it carefully. There are no issues at all with its accuracy. I’ve had other watches do this too with no affect on the watch.
