Detoxing from a Horological Overload
It’s been several days of watches for me. It was a big watch week in NYC with several brands in town and WatchTime and Wind Up both happening.
It was all indies or micro brands (also indies but separated by $$$$ and some other sometimes very subjective metrics), and so after all of that I needed a detox.
The Daytona is that perfect detox.
I had the privilege to attend Fri night and Saturday. Was fabulous. Lot of great stuff to see.

I was there Friday evening and Sunday. Did Windup on Saturday...so much to admire...info overload...lol
Not sure what was new at Greubel booth, as not that familiar with their lineup. Nonetheless everything they had on site was amazing and simply insane (in the best superlative way) to me.

I went a bit crazy on the caffeine the week prior in our favourite city. Been a low caffeine several days since !
LOL, hope it was a great weekend! I was sad to miss all the festivities last week, look forward to hearing any thoughts/highlights. I think it's interesting to see which brands attended...
... Given SIAR in MX earlier in the week, IAMWATCH happening in SG at the same time, and Dubai Watch Week in HK just after, a lot happening at the same time and brands having to make choices. Seems like Watchtime lost some exhibitors to IAMWATCH but the Windup event really blew up. You would think they'd find a way to coordinate so the shows aren't stepping on each other's toes, the industry would benefit from being able to flex across all the venues instead of having to pick and choose. Selfishly I just want more brands to make it to NYC of course but still surprised at how big a draw Singapore seems to be over NYC....
I didn’t do WatchTime…
…in part as there was both nothing there that was new or interesting to me but also because I was able to have dinner with Romain Gauthier earlier in the week and was meeting some other “watch friends” also.
I did go to Wind Up however. At least at Wind Up there were watches which one could actually purchase !
I agree re scheduling; but obviously when it comes to Indies then Singapore is a priority. IAMWATCH looked bananas, as expected, and fun in a way that I don’t think could be replicated in the US or EU as everyone (the average collector) takes themselves far too seriously (in my opinion).
Romain was very open, had lots to share both in terms of business and watches. He does as some people know have some crazy coming (a “halo” watch) in the not too distant future.

It's a crazy and amazing thing to get that group with that atmosphere... and how all sales go through The Hourglass. I can see how that would be a hard thing to do here but maybe that just makes for a good excuse to go to SG next year not even for the watches so much as to see what that community of collectors looks like.
