Another Ltd Edition....
but hey this might be my very first GS, limited to 500pcs for US only...What are your thoughts?

I had the chance to get the US Edition SBGA387 in Las Vegas back in 2018 but decided to pass...now this one may be it.
We all cringe on Ltd Editions but look at Omega...some new releases should still be limited editions imho.
Surprised I can still add to cart....hmmm, since 10am ET and still not sold out, something's change, similar to the Rake Octo Chrono with only 25 pcs. Maybe collectors getting tired of collaboration watches now?

I've got to say, the Japanese watches seem to be stuck in that serious/brutalist 1970s/1980s design language. And, not to disparage Hodinkee, but I'm not sure I like the idea of a Hodinkee logo on the back of the watch. Frankly, I wouldn't want any unnecessary logo on the back of my watch, not even a Rolls-Royce logo on the back of my watch.

I think it would look much better on a leather strap. The bracelet doesn't work with this imo for two reasons. Firstly, it makes the watch feel sportier than it is and GS skews on the dressy side. Second, there is just way too much grey. I with there would be more color somewhere- colored numerals or a colored gmt hand. In absence of those, I think some color on a strap would go a long way with this watch.
Same sentiments when I tried on the other GS, I felt they look much better on leather, more so than on bracelets.
Blue and Grey are representative of 2020 :P

I'm on the fence on the dial. Not sure I want to make the GMT function "invisible". I get it makes things less busy, but it is a GMT watch.
What I know for sure, the 3-link bracelet is a mistake. Use the 5 link or a beads of rice, but the all brushed 3-link doesn't match the rest of the watch. My 2 cents.

Also, 500 units is still a lot to sell - think it will be on the market for a little while longer.

Not sure how the look with change with a different GMT hand color....tbh I prefer the 3 link vs 5 link bracelet....well as I typed now, 1st batch sold out but it did take longer than I expected...I didn't order.
Loving the brand isn't an endorsement of every model..
Here's another limited version of the same GMT. This one feels special...
I like GS
but this one would not be first on my list. The reason being that I really like the way the do textures and colors on their dials and this version does not have that.
In the end, I may never have any because when it's so diverse with so many variants, I don't know which to get and just give up. [nt]

They are enjoyable watches and great for daily wear. I would visit a GS retailer and have a look at the standard non limited models and see if anything in particular speaks to me. Then you would have a reference for both the case shape as well as dial type preference. You're right, far too many variants and editions.

it's got all the makings of a sell-out piece (blue, steel, integrated bracelet, limited edition [Hodinkee at that])...
yet it leaves one cold...
perhaps the Omega's and Grand Seiko's can finally realize that it's no longer about the limited edition but the limited supply.
Oh, but that takes nothing away from it being a much better travel timepiece than Hodinkee's last travel timepiece ;-)

I went through 4-5 GS's before I landed on The One
I feel very relaxed seeing all these come and go...
The One for me is the SBGW253.
I love so many GS's... but they really are in overload mode now...
You need to choose one that is not 99% like another...
Hence the SBGW253. Yes, they diluted it a bit. But not enough to make it feel less special.
And I like it for its own sake anyway...
I like the all brushed bracelet on this one...
I never liked the mixed finish bracelets from GS.
Other than that... meh.
I find the Hodinkee engraving a negative personally.
But aside from the dilution aspect, you just can't go wrong with any GS, as long as you personally love it.

Good for you but I ponder what you said....I have to love it and not just go for "every collector must have a xxx, like GS, Zenith Primero, Reverso" kind of mentality.
