A. Lange & Söhne

I dont know ...

A few random thoughts/remarks from me too.

I agree, it seems that Lange owners appreciate their watches more then, say,
Patek owners. Look at the posts made at Lange and Patek forums. Question
regarding investment value are more often found on Patek forums then they
appear on the Lange forums. Also, if a picture is posted of a watch in its
factory seal, it often is a Patek ... I have never seen a Lange in its
protective clothing on the any of the forums.

I dont know if Lange offers its owners more for less. Compare f.i. the
Lange-1 Moonphase in gold to a Patek 5035 ... the latter features an annual
calendar and costs less then the Lange with date and moonphase display. Or
compare the Patek 5970g with the Datograph Perpetual...

I know that Lange is a much appreciated brand in Germany (which explains the
fact that ArmbandUhren magazine often choose a Lange watch as "watch of the
year" ... wasnt the Lange-1 given that title twice?) but I didnt know it is
held in higher esteem then MB, BMW and Porsche. Congrats Lange ... I guess
that is quite an accomplishment!

Lange is an exclusive brand, yes. This is due to the limited production at
the Lange Manufaktur, but dont forget that the "others" are making and
selling watches since ages while Lange is the new kid on the block ... just
13 or 17 years of wristwatch history.

Innovative ... YES.
Fusee and chain in a wristwatch,
big date on the a-symmetrical Lange-1 (and the two other 1994 models)
new-inhouse chronograph movement,
DoubleSplit,
1815 Moonphase
Lange-31
...

One aspect you didnt mention is after-sales and customer treatment. In
general, the Swiss industry has become arrogant; Lange treats their
clientele with more respect. I am sure that if production increases Lange
has to change its attitude towards it buyers (they already are doing so as
their policy on hands- and dial- exchanges has become more strict). My AD
sells Patek too and everytime I am told that dealing with Germans is much
more rewarding and professional then having to deal with the Swiss... I
know, this is a generalisation too, but I do hear it every time I visit my
AD.

I can find myself in your subject as I am a true Lange enthusiast; so the
above cannot be considered a objective observation.
