Hi, Georges,
As you know, all opinions and points of view are welcome here, so long as they are respectfully presented.
But we are very alert to crusades, both pro and con, perpetuation of myths, especially if the reality is known here but not so widely known elsewhere.
In response to a picture of a bunch of Miuras, you wrote "...mechanically unreliable and rustbuckets."
I would argue, and NOT a matter of opinion, that Lamborghini MECHANICALS, in particular the engine and transmissions, are actually quite reliable relative to similar highly tuned powertrains. Admittedly their electricals are frequently wonky and some secondary systems not as reliable as the powertrain...but your words echo general perception that ALL Lamborghini subsystems are unreliable, including powertrain, which is simply untrue. And not a matter of opinion...
"Rustbuckets" - Alfas, BMW's, Maseratis (including the Merak and Ghibli you mention as great Italian cars) et al are all highly susceptible to rust.
So again, I'm not sure of your point in pointing those things out in a thread that started out as an appreciation of the design of the Miura? If your point was, I dislike the Miura's design, contrary to conventional wisdom and taste, I dont think we would need to have this sub-discussion...
Hope you understand what I am trying to say, it seems you need to disparage Lamborghini at every opportunity while proclaiming your love for ...
About most big American cars not handling well vis a vis European vehicles of similar type and class - GT vs GT; big sedan vs big sedan; sports vs sports - having owned or driven more than a few examples of both categories, I am left scratching my head we even need to have this conversation. Lincoln or Caddy sedan vs Mercedes S-Class (or more unusually Maserati Quattroporte or Citroen SM); Mustang, Camaro, Firebird et al vs their european counterparts - are you honestly trying to tell me you feel the American versions handle and roadhold as well as their European counterparts? Personal preferences for handling and ride notwithstanding?
(I'm curious what velociphile or BDLJ have to say about this...)
