Can an icon evolve ?

 

Good post as always – this is one of my absolute favourite watches – highest on the splurge list (Tony in PVG, give me a deal!!)… I like the points you make and they all ask one question – how can an iconic piece evolve… on one hand, it’s easy to deride the new variations for an AP style revamp (love AP by the way but the multiple variations on a single amazing design are irking at best)… but on the other, it creates the opportunity for maybe new buyers to buy into the brand and offers a slightly more modern take on the classic… this is a huge responsibility for a brand and also a huge gamble.

 

I like the YG, for me, the only relevant version, but then again, the introduction of the automatic version could also be seen as sacrilegious, and yet, it’s in keeping with the times…

 

So for me, as long at it doesn’t turn into the colour-of-the-month club, these new versions add a bit of a refresh – I do 100% agree with you, let’s hope Breguet has at least one ground-breaking piece to instil a new direction to the brand… maybe some of the visual cues of the new Marine Royale 5847 prefigure a deeper evolution…

You make a good point that I had in mind but neglected to write in the original post. If Breguet continues to make groundbreaking watches like the La Tradition, then it will definitely progress well. However, if it begins to stagnate and new designs revol...

I really like the color contrasts on the back of the RG, the split between gold and steel wheels makes the bits and pieces really "pop" without looking overdone A

Mr Breguet himself was indeed good at marketing himself and his products. The new colours may be just his thing. Who knows? - SJX

It brings Breguet into the playing field of the cool. I avoided using "up to" the playing field, because it could be "down to" the level of... But seriously...I would add that to my own collection. It will look sort of correct with the others.

I really really appreciate the La Tradition in white gold with black dial. To me, this watch screams "I am a liberal conservative" or "I am a young conservative." It's a paradox and ironically I like it. I know the La Tradition is all about tradition, and...
