Some thoughts still. These are probably the only two non round watches that have sold consistently well - it is an exceedingly difficult part of the market.
I like the design, brand, mechanics framework mentioned above and looking at it this way I recon Cartier will probably have a much more universal appeal amongst ‘non-watch types’ as the brand is not primarily or exclusively watch related. This also allowed Cartier to branch out much more broadly with the Tank (a quartz Reverso would be a strange thing, a quartz Tank a million seller).
I like versions of both but have my own thirst for non round watches covered by something ‘stranger’ for the moment. Not to say a Tank or Reverso might not join eventually, just probably not straight away.

For me, the Art Deco lines of the Reverso really speak to me much more than the Cartier. I really like the Cartier, but the Reverso just feels more special to me. Je ne sais quoi. I don't know why I like the Reverso more, but I just do!
Both have a great history and will continue to be classic choices.
To me a basic non date gold Cartier Tank is slightly more the conservative choice. A flamboyant person may choose the Reverso. But either will be winners.

No, mine is the previous generation of mid-size
The size is 25.2 x 42.3. A bit bigger than the new one. I think the new size is fine for most of wrist. The bigger size or "tribute" size is definitely wears much bigger at 27 x 45 mm.

I find the Cartier to be more demure, sophisticated, and elegant. However, I love the sporting nature in the history of the reverso.

The Santos does give you that Cartier design language but with a bit more wrist presence. Have you ever tried the larger Tank Américaine or Tank MC? I wonder if those might strike a balance for someone who finds the classic Tanks too slight.
