I think it is quite a subjective matter, I would say some will be happy to see it at this size while some will not. For me, I am about your age, I am comfortable wearing watches up to 47mm so far and it all depends on its design. Like for Offshore T3, i can accept the size of 56mm.
However, I do understand where you coming from though. I cannot imagine if they blow up the Basculante to 50mm
