Certain watches like the Tortue QP you mention will be more elegant and attractive if they were slimmer. Some, like the Astroregulateur, are too big.
But, and this is a big "but", Cartier is listening to the consumer. The Pasha skeleton tourbillon of 2011 is 40 mm (shown below) and next year will see several smaller sized watches. Keep an eye out for the news here.

40mm makes a good size...

There are two models from Fine Watchmaking to be launched next week at SIHH off the top of my head that are modest in size and design. As for cufflinks, we'll see, that's not my expertise. ;-) - SJX
