Feasible? Trade my pre-owned PP5712/1A-001 for a pre-owned PP5170P-001?
Greetings,
I've owned the 5712/1A-001 since 2018 when bought it new from AD after a 4 year wait. Now that the value has more than doubled I was thinking about taking the opportunity to jump up to a hand-wound chronograph in platinum. I would be maintaining the dark blue dial along with keeping the white metal case - but with dressy leather strap. Of course I'd be upgrading the movement while getting rid of a number of complications that I don't particularly use.
Do you believe this is a good trade? Do you believe this is a realistic trade?

That’s a smart move imho....but you might have to add cash for the 5170P...
You have a better chance getting a 5070G even. Remember what you want for your watch is not always what the dealer will pay.

Believe it or not, I don't wear the 5712 as a daily beater - I use it nearly exclusively with smarter attire... so the 5170P would have the same purpose. Best, Robert

I have the same hesitancy too. 5170P is a great timepiece, no doubt.

Assuming that an even trade is feasible,
IMO you should pull the trigger if you like the 5170P as much or more than the 5712. To me, putting aside the popularity of the 5712, the 5170P is at a different level due to it’s chrono function, platinum case, and the subtle baguette diamond hour marker...

Since you already stated that you have other watches, a Daytona, thr 5170P would not be your only watch which makes more sense. If thr 5170P would be your only watch, then the 5712/1A would probably be a better choice. In the end, it is your decision but ...
