Oysterquartz
I bought it from an AD in the late 1970’s. I have boxes, papers and a couple links taken from the bracelet when I bought it. It had a white dial and I asked the AD to replace it with a black dial. I’ve noted that most pics of Oysterquartz in this forum have the “Superlative Chronometer” notation on the dials. Mine does not have it. I used the watch hard for around 20 years. It reliably kept the time to within one or two seconds per month. Rolex recommended battery change every two years which I usually complied with to be sure that it didn’t run out at an inconvenient moment; I was often somewhere that it would have been difficult and even impossible to service it. A couple of times I let it run out: it ran for about two and a half years. I gave about $1,200 for it (around $4,000 inflation adjusted today.) Biannual service to refresh the battery also included replacing the seals, and were kind of expensive. I did at least one major service that was maybe $400 or $500. I spent more than I paid for the watch to service it over 20 years. I haven’t used the watch since more than 20 years ago. A while back I asked a Rolex certified watchmaker whom I happen to know about putting it back in action and I learned that a full service might cost almost as much as I paid for the watch. I decided not to do it since I don’t use it anymore.
