The year is
ending today. A year ago we had just been presented the new Patek Philippe
manual wind chronograph calibre and were all expecting a men's watch
equipped with the new marvel. We got that watch with the reference 5170J at
Baselworld.
The 5170J has
yet not answered all wishes for several reasons. The classical design that I
really love on all aspects is certainly too much of a classic formal style for
many. The yellow gold colour is another aspect that is not to everyone's
taste.
Furthermore the
watch has not been readily available and consequently have had to rely on
pictures to make a temporary opinion. Hopefully the beginning of deliveries
that occurred in the last months will allow many to see the real thing and be
seduced if they have to.
Hopefully we
will also see in the future other colours offered with white or pink gold
cases, or platinum, or who knows, … steel cases! That may not happen in
2011 but I'm nearly sure that will happen, at least for some colours. It
will just be a matter of patience.
Still we can
wonder what to hope for 2011 at Baselworld. Several posters have reported the
announcement of new marvels to come. Obviously we won't know more before
the show, but we can imagine, or ask what is just easier.
On my side if I
have only one watch to ask, it is a reference 5463A, equipped with the same
calibre as reference 5170J.
You know that I
love that calibre that I fond particularly appealing with its technical
advances. I've already shared those: patek.watchprosite.com
I consequently
see this calibre as my ultimate target in the modern range, number one in order
of desire, and number two in order of probable (if ever possible) ownership
after a wished 5711/1A that may fulfil my everyday needs.
The design of
the 5463A would be obviously directly derived from the reference 1463. You can
see one pictured below.

My 5463A would
have a 39mm case, and a dial copied directly above. I would just hope for
thinner round "mushroom" pushers. It would obviously get the same
kind of screwed see-through back as on the 5170. In fact the case could
be the same as the 5170 case, with just round pushers instead of rectangular
ones.
I have little
doubt that I would not be alone to dream about this watch. I just wish it will
come, even if I'd do easily with a 5170J.
Obviously we can
certainly hope for much more for 2011. I can imagine several new versions or
watches, like a 5153G, a 5726/1A, a square Gondolo, possibly with a ten days
calibre, a 5339G, a perpetual calendar version of the 5170, or a simpler watch
based on the 5205 case.
I would wish
even more a new simple manual wind calibre for the Calatrava range. This
calibre could be a bit larger, incorporating a hacking central seconds, and why
not a Breguet curve spring. Such a calibre could be the basis for a renewal of
the Calatrava range. I've already asked and hoped for such calibre and will
keep asking.
Let's
hope my friends!
Finally and
above all for 2011 I also hope and wish for all of you members of this
community a great year in all aspects of your lives.
I wish us
pleasure, peace, prosperity.
Have a good last
night before a great coming year!
