Watch Spotting Etiquette
Dear all,
I am a relatively new poster to this forum although a long-time lurker. I would like to thank all the contributors here who have vastly expanded my knowledge and appreciation of fine watches.
On to my question: I live in New York and at least a few times a month, I spot some beautiful timepieces out in the wild. Some Royal Oaks, Nautiliuses, all manners of Panerais and even an FP Journe.
What's the proper etiquette here? Should I stare and remain silent? Can I compliment the person on their watch without seeming creepy?
Obviously, context matters. If I'm at a dinner or cocktail reception, I am much more likely to strike up a conversation. If I'm walking on the street, I will usually not say a thing. What about if I'm in the subway (i.e., a confined space for 10+mins) - would it be awkward?
I would love for all of you to share your experiences of either approaching or being approached...
Thanks!
