F.P. Journe

I think it was a very well thought out move in a situation where you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t….

He had no hand in the fact that it suddenly became a hot ticket - and the only one people suddenly wanted in many cases. Instead of doing what Patek did and mistreating it like the Nautilus ad Aquanaut like they really have (while stating the opposite), I think he protected those who had collected in good faith. Why didn’t he just cut it then, you can ask? It’s the only watch where he has taken this approach and he is typically not afraid of stopping a success if total production gets too high. I can’t say I know the answer but I can see it prevents the watch from going through the roof in terms of price and he can still cater “something” to very big and special clients. I’m assuming this is convenient now that there are no more special Editions coming.
