You are absolutely right. I wrote in a comment earlier these wines are perhaps as rare as a limited series minute repeater, but even more so, once they are opened and savored, it feels a little like hunting and killing a near extinct species.

While I am certainly not one that qualifies as a proper oenophile, I am hoping to build a much more solid understanding and appreciation of the experience, so that I can not only differentiate on price and brand alone, but on particular qualities and complexities beyond sight/smell/taste/touch/body etc but to understanding character and emotion and artistry smile I get a sense that building an understanding and appreciation of differentiation, begins with understanding the "best-in-class" or superlatives in the category, to help set guideposts for future reference. Like understanding how Dufour finishes his watches, Patek enhances its Minute Repeaters, or Voutilainen creates his dials - it helps me discern excellence and sets benchmarks to build an audible and visual diary.

Furthermore, I guess like watches - with a de-identified photo of the dial or a ticking sound or a magnified movement photo of the balance wheel - can I quickly identify the make, the model, the movement, the series, the year of manufacture, and any other notes (eg first year xxx produced this piece, model yyy, launched at Zzz, series of aaa, etc). I've always been fascinated with the "blindfolded test" by sommeliers - maybe one day?

If anything, appreciate your feedback. Certainly I'm not one to raise my hand to say I would appreciate this better than a master sommelier and/or the oenophiles in this fora, but after a full two plus years of the pandemic and primarily working from home, this will definitely be an extraordinary escape and respite. And no better way to do this than with the surround sound of engaging all senses smile
