Why spend money on more costly (and beautiful) movement layouts and finishing when the ROI on marketing is so much higher?
Instead, automate the hell out of production and spend vast dollars selling prospective buyers on the idea that they're getting something truly special by conjuring up all manner of B.S. The truth is that 15-20 years ago watches were far more special (despite the comparative lack of marketing) and vastly cheaper (inflation adjusted).
Even the mighty Lange did this when migrating from the terrific Langematik to much more pedestrian automatic movements all while raising prices.
