Art and watches

Hi Mostel, I like your analogy of watches and art. In the Art world, the classics, modern and contemporary coexist beautifully and are sought by Art collectors worldwide. Contemporary art sold at auctions and from commercial art galleries fetches very high prices. Contemporary artists like Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst are living superstars. MB & F being the watch equivalent ?

Many famous paintings by famous artists eg. Van Gogh were not commercially successful whilst he was alive ( he traded his finish paintings for raw canvas and art supplies ), were not commercially successful in their time.

You mentioned Jackson Pollock. I do like his drip paintings ( albeit created in a drug haze ) . It is full of energy ( my descriptive term ) . His works are in the collection of all the famous public galleries and in many large private collections and have by now stood the test of time.

Your analogy of Art an Watches got me thinking an I realise that the classics and modern/contemporary can coexist very well in interior design. To give an example, many contemporary stark minimalistic interiors can be softened by a few nice classical antique rugs or a few antique old Chinese furniture ( crafted with no glue or nails ) cleverly juxtaposed in a corner.

What watch you wear with your clothes ?  I somehow fancy an MB & F, Vianney  Halter  to be matched with a Junya Watanabe Blazer and a classical watch to go with anything from Savile Row.

If contemporary watch art like MB & F , Urwerk are like contemporary art , the future looks bright with future collectors.

Cheers,dreamer
