Horological Meandering

Multiple factors come in play ...

My cents:

1) It depends, strongly, on the future parts availability. Rolex "bubble back" had a strong push, years back, until the owners faced parts challenge. Today, at least where I live, a "bubble back" does not receive any attention. I just wonder if one can obtain a part (and an able watchmaker), in 30 years from now, for his/her perpetual calendar.

2) Fashion trends. Size is a factor. Last century, 40's/50's, a 35mm watch was considered to be huge and not to be considered by any gentleman. Today ...

3) Auction/dealer "fads". Amazes me how much power an auction/dealer fad plays on our hobby. Watches that were ignored by serious collectors were pushed to the top by a combination of auction houses, bloggers and major dealers just because "is rare".

Cheers,

Nilo
