As a time reference...
I use a clock that is "Radio Wave Controlled / Auto Tuning". Since the clock syncs with the radio signal every hour it's close enough for me.
I let my watches run down between using. To set a watch that has stopped I do the following:
01) Wind the watch 50 times (automatic or hand wind watches)
02) Set the watch to 6:00 AM
03) Advance the calendar to yesterday's date (using quick date set)
04) Stop the time with the seconds hand at 12 (hack at 12)
05) Manually advance the date/time to the date, hour, and minute (actual minute +1)
06) Start the watch when sync'ed to the reference clock
The only exception is my perpetual (IWC Da Vinci with year indication) which I always set in December and allowed to run over the New Year. I never set (advance) the year by manual means.
