I would let go the Royal Oak company And exactly for that reason ... If the RO would not exist the brand itself would probably be close to nothing

In A. Lange & Sohne - the consistently high quality across the entire range make this brand a natural choice. I don't even like them as I prefer Moritz Grossmann and Lang & Heyne but these are excluded by your rules.

IN - probably Lange, but a photo finish in the race with Breguet. I think AP will undoubtedly be the supermajority OUT brand.

I really despise AL&S behaviour WRT "buying history" and that kind of nonsense but I can't find another brand that can satisfy the OP's requests. Maybe Breguet can be the other choice but their style is just not for me.

One simply cannot find that level of quality anywhere else apart maybe from the likes of Voutilainen, Smith, Dufour and Rexhepi.

I'd say VC and AP are both out and Breguet and Lange are both in. Patek, Breguet, Lange is a better 'trinity' in my book than Patek, Vacheron, AP.

It seems this is becoming the consensus choice, with Breguet being mentioned often too. The Grand Seiko suggestion is interesting and certainly worth considering too. My choice for ALS is based on their commitment to their high levels of finishing of thei...

AP is doing cheesy collaborations with musicians, if you can call them that. I like the Star Wheel but that’s basically it. Patek is quality but also smart supply/demand and Vacheron has history and the most interesting pieces of the last 5 years. I have ...

I like breguet styles , they seems have great value for money especially in secondary market. You can find a 8K gold breguet which is way nicer than a steel rolex at the same price.

But then again, not sure I want crowds at Breguet Boutiques Breguet deserves podium but personally I like living in the quiet fringes

Whilst others have stuck with tried and true designs and incrementalism. If we stick with that appreciation of the traditional generation of watchmaking, ALS would be my vote to replace AP (side note: surprisingly, sales of CODE alone recently equalled AL... 

These are watches that are more friendly to my wallet but most probably will never buy as it suppose to be grail to me. 😜
