Horological Meandering

Hi Horo, I think...

the absurdity of some of the novelties that we see out there that people try to ply as "good" will be enough of a come-on to avert horocoma.

because it's something that we can discuss for better or for worse.

i think a prevailing "blah" flavor more than "yuck" will do it big time for those on the way to horocoma.

but if you have enough of the latter, lots of opinions to be traded.

it's when SIHH or BAselworld(?)become boring that people may totally leave the scene.

as to making them strap on something new... well, that's tough... what we can only do is help them endure enough to make them stay on their own path to rediscovery.

we can only do so much with what is out there.  we're prisoners to what the manufactures will put out.

but if we're unable to sustain the passion in these foras, it's going to be very difficult.

1)  one remedy then might be to encourage more knowledgeable lurkers to participate.

2)  AND maybe more GTGs.

3)  AND so when we're in for a boring year, no harm in rediscovering the classics, icons and iconoclasts and doing a feature on them every so often to remind us about the times when it was more about the watch/craft rather than the money (if that were at all possible).

again, all about sustaining the friendship and the "intellectual" discourse more than the actual offerings that's going to help us stay the course.

i got tired.  5 years.  but TP was always there to sustain my interest... enough to go thinking about buying again and putting photography on hold for just a little while smile

eventually, the quality of "us" is what's going to prevent fatigue turn into coma.
