Horological Meandering

Yes, after SIHH.

On the first day of SIHH I was as usual feeling eager to see new watches. I entered the Palexpo, dazzled by the watches in the windows and the also exquisitely selected receptionists at each booth - I was ticking along like a lubrication-free, high-beat silicon escapement.

By the end of the first day of SIHH I was happy to have seen many new watches. And I was chuffed since during the day various CEOs, directors and managers of all and sundry watch brands said hello and exchanged pleasantaries, some even implored me to take a look at their novelties. At SIHH you feel like a Panerai special edition in ceramic composite with ADLC coating - widely sought after.

***Fast forward to last day***

On the last day at the fair I didn't want to wake up. But it didn't really matter since I couldn't sleep, hounded as I was in my dreams by monstrous tourbillons with crunching cages and sharp, wolf's teeth. I dreamt of thunderous strikes of imaginary minute repeaters echoing across barren lands, interrupted only by stomping column wheels charging across chasing down some poor escape watch enthusiast.

Once I was inside the accursed Palexpo, I did my best to walk with my eyes down to the floor, hoping and praying no one would see me; but despite walking like that the entire day I don't remember what the carpet looks like because my head was full of you-know-what. Because I had to shake another hand of yet another individual with a name card that was remotely horologically linked, and have that person ask me "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE FAIR?", I would have taken the longest, patinated and hand-made watch strap I could find and strangled myself.
