It is opposite the 12 and they are both right side up to each other. Now comes the part where I could be completely off, but maybe not. In order to read 1 o'clock through 5 o'clock as if you were seeing them straight on, you'd tilt your head to the right....
The numbers around the dial being up right or continuing around upside down. Personally I prefer the upright but I think I was in the minority or great unwashed group. LOL
The dial part more of less flow with the upside down numbers. But then as pointed out, the date wheel is a mess (at lest to me). It's a mish-mash of upright and strangely tilted/slanted numbers. And I see that "6" for a "9" and the upside down 21 next to ...
