Let's be honest - there is no such thing as "watch journalism".
Any commercial watch blog or site has to find way to survive and the Swiss watch industry is small, conservative, intolerant to criticism. If you write about watches for a living you need to be careful with your words, otherwise future access would be denied.
I have come to accept Hodinkee for what it has become. The early days are gone but realistically they could never last. So for me all those collaborations are like any others with various retailers and other blogs. Is the design interesting/ unique or not? I don't care if it is Hodinkee or Revolution. There are hits and misses but more often than not they are more refreshing than the generic limited editions brands produce.
