Well you know I have the black dial version, I'm still looking for an automatic one too.
The automatic - it's a great size, and has the gold medallion on the case back as do other master control of the same era.
Be a nice contrast to the manual - which I always think is rather fab & just about perfect for size. Understand your comment about the crowns, but they do make it easier to live with.

I have the rose gold version - more formal than the steel one but also beautiful.
I would also add that the gong embedded in the sapphire crystal makes a huge difference - mine has by far the best sounding alarm of any watch that I have ever heard, not just among JLC. Very melodious, high end repeater like.
