John Reardon was incredible and got back to me that he's seen the dial before and believes it is original (with the caveat that I should get an archive to be sure). With that little nudge, I took the plunge and bought it. Now my wife and I have matching Ellipses and I love it. Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions here.

Looks off to my eyes
Even should there be texture (is this a 3548 or 3848?) The roughness of the texture seems inconsistent with the overall refinement of this ellipse. My 2 cents. Chk

Interesting textured dial, similar to the
5226 grainy one ! If genuine, there is lineage of 5226 from ellipse ! Hope that it is original and if so we look forward to you becoming the owner đź‘Ť
