Some Pateks come with deployment clasp while others come with buckle on leather straps. Collectors typically favours pieces with deployment clasp. Is there a guideline on how Patek decides whether their pieces are fixed with deployment clasp or with buckl... 

Depends on the particular piece, really. Personally I think the standard tang buckle is the more classic. From a practical standpoint the deployant perhaps affords greater security when placing the watch on one's wrist, whereas the tang buckle adds greate...

you mentioned 6000r always comes with a deployant buckle. i saw a few now with rosegold pin buckles. where they sold with pins aswell? thank you!

I spent a "fortune" on them in the past, but today I prefer a buckle most of the time. Not only because of the understatement. At the end it is just a matter of taste and habit. Oliver

I think is a distinctive detail of the brand.

even the 5070 or the Daytona 116518, for both safety and comfort reasons. It is much more comfortable for smaller wrists. Original pin buckles do not come cheap, though... Cheers, R

Just a pet peeve, and I realize it contributes nothing to the content of this thread, but it's "deployant" not "deployment".

My local AD usually has the deployant clasp in a variety of sizes and metals, or can order one if not in inventory. A previous customer might have swapped out a deployant for a standard buckle, or vice versa. I would try there first. They are frequently a... 

My 5205 initially was assembled with simple buckle - I purchased the deployment clasp as I think it's more secure... And I like the calatrava cross as well;)

Used to be in the olden days, all the watches sold here in the US came with the 12.5mm Stern buckle (the pointed tang style buckle used today throughout the world which was originally designed by Henri Stern) and the folding buckle was an accessory purcha... 

the deployant clip very much and very glad the only Patek watch I own came with it.. It's easy to wear, elegant looking and definitely make the leather strap more lasting. The pin buckle have the tendency to weaken the hole which the pin would poke throug...

There is a newer style deployant that features a Stern buckle rather than the Calatrava cross within a circle. It's really much more discreet in appearance.

Opinions and tastes vary, but "loud" is not necesarily the message I want my watches to convey, even more so with Patek. The deployant I was referencing is not either of the ones pictured in your posts above. It has the appearance of a regular Stern tang ... 

I have this version on my 5130... it is a deployant buckle but without calatrava cross... right?

I've seen it referred to as the 'Henri Stern deployant clasp' and basically has the appearance of the standard tang style buckle but with the deployant mechanism. I believe that both deployant styles are available (Calatrava and Stern) and best I can tell... 

The ADs that I visited only have the cross style deployant on their watches. My 5146 is 3 month old and it came with the Calatrava Cross deployant.

my 5130 has this sort of buckle - purchased in 2009, in 2010 they changed the deployant buclke and added there Calatrava cross.

I may be mistaken, and I'm no expert or fan of the Patek deployant, but I think that the Calatrava style deployant has been around the longest. The Stern style deployant seems to have been introduced more recently but may not have been as well recieved an... 

THIS IS RIGHT! The stern type deployant looks like the closing latch on the wooden patek box and may have been introduced a around the same time as the change in box style. The older style large square boxes i remember had a reddish color wood with a smal...

Patrick nailed it, that's the one I was referencing. A completely different look from the Calatrava cross but functionally similar. Don't know if there's a price difference but I would think not significant if any.

Of other forum members in another topic, I think I can give another example of another so called "stern deployant", The reference 5350R !
