my 5130 has this sort of buckle - purchased in 2009, in 2010 they changed the deployant buclke and added there Calatrava cross.
Depends....

Depends on the particular piece, really. Personally I think the standard tang buckle is the more classic. From a practical standpoint the deployant perhaps affords greater security when placing the watch on one's wrist, whereas the tang buckle adds greate...
Not 100% true

Patek offers pin buckles for the most classic references (I don't want to use the word "entry level" which I don't think is a right word for a watch in this price and quality segment.) such as 5127, 5296, 5124, 5098, etc. One of very few exception is the ...

I agree with your comments, but I'm not sure that I understand your point on safety. I think that the deployant may be helpful for some when initially putting on the watch to prevent dropping it, but once it's safely on the wrist I believe the standard bu...

for correcting me. I let the predictive text correct me too much they sub the wrong word in. And yes, deployant clips are nice to have and it's boils down to taste and preference. Where to buy them if they don't come with ur Patek. Also, do you guys attac...
Check with your AD
By: sam1234 : August 21st, 2013-11:23
My local AD usually has the deployant clasp in a variety of sizes and metals, or can order one if not in inventory. A previous customer might have swapped out a deployant for a standard buckle, or vice versa. I would try there first. They are frequently a...
Patek folding buckles.
By: whit : August 23rd, 2013-11:41
Used to be in the olden days, all the watches sold here in the US came with the 12.5mm Stern buckle (the pointed tang style buckle used today throughout the world which was originally designed by Henri Stern) and the folding buckle was an accessory purcha...
I like..
By: akitaishi : August 26th, 2013-06:30
the deployant clip very much and very glad the only Patek watch I own came with it.. It's easy to wear, elegant looking and definitely make the leather strap more lasting. The pin buckle have the tendency to weaken the hole which the pin would poke throug...
Stern clasp
By: sam1234 : August 29th, 2013-09:34
Opinions and tastes vary, but "loud" is not necesarily the message I want my watches to convey, even more so with Patek. The deployant I was referencing is not either of the ones pictured in your posts above. It has the appearance of a regular Stern tang ...
Correct
By: sam1234 : August 29th, 2013-10:08
I've seen it referred to as the 'Henri Stern deployant clasp' and basically has the appearance of the standard tang style buckle but with the deployant mechanism. I believe that both deployant styles are available (Calatrava and Stern) and best I can tell...
Exactly!
By: EDJA : August 30th, 2013-03:11
THIS IS RIGHT! The stern type deployant looks like the closing latch on the wooden patek box and may have been introduced a around the same time as the change in box style. The older style large square boxes i remember had a reddish color wood with a smal...
Yep

Patrick nailed it, that's the one I was referencing. A completely different look from the Calatrava cross but functionally similar. Don't know if there's a price difference but I would think not significant if any.
