I have only tried the new white dial 5270G and there was no chemistry. I find white dials in white metals a bit cold but it really depends on how these are made. When Patek makes them white- silvery grey, the dial comes alive and changes to a beautiful grey when light is low; I love it and that’s why I got my 5396G (in addition of being more into registers than sub-dials). A simple perpetual with registers will be great; I don’t know if it will happen but the design will have to be different from ref. 3450 otherwise it will conflict with the vintage market.
The one perpetual chrono I need to try is the 1st generation 5270, the one that Fricks has, without tachymeter scale this watch is different for the others, a bit like the new black 5170, removing the pulsation scale somehow declutter the dial. That said all new PP chronos are bottom heavy and sub-dials are not aligned on the 3-9 o’clock line and somehow it is something I don’t like, same for Langes’.
Hence maybe the 5970 is the one to go for. My problem is that I will need to sell some pieces to get one and would not I be satisfied with just one, I think that if I open his Pandora Box then I will end up buying 2 - one WG and one RG.
Best,
PS: I am enjoying my new 5712A
