I have owned the 5170G-001, and 5170G-010 before. My favourites are 5170G-001 and 5170P-001.

Obviously I like this reference as I own the 5170 G. And I cannot stress enough that this is one of the most comfortable wearing chronographs due to the very slim 10.9mm thickness (for a chronograph) !!!

What always felt a tad odd about the reference to me is the placement of the subdials just a tad below the centerline of the watch. I find the effect less pronounced on the dark dials than the silver ones - hence find those more appealing 😊

Because of the more pronounced vintage vibe I still prefer the J, but I prefer the placement of the subdials of the CdV.

Wonderful movement and great on the wrist. I think I'm with you on the j (the light dial r is also nice in its austerity). The sub dials on the black dials seem over-painted to me somehow -- a shame, as I quite like the versions with the Breguet numerals....

I think it’s quality or charm is that it feels harmonious where as the appeal of the 5070 lies in the many quirks- two different watches with different appeal. So the harmony of the J with a vintage vibe and G with black dial / no scale stand out to me as...

I generally prefer white metal. The 5170G-001 with the pulsation dial is a bit more interesting to me. It is also a strap monster and my go-to thanks to its versatility. Can't go wrong with any of the dial variants. ...

...but the Pulsation scale is useless to me and takes up too much dial space. Were I crazy rich I'd go with Platinum and diamond markers : ) Although rose gold is kind of perfect other than not being yellow gold...

but a bit too modern looking for me and I don’t like the lumed Dauphine hands.

I struggled with this reference - I generally prefer leaf hands and double scales for classic chronos.. that combo wasn’t made! Haha.. Also I am still getting used to subdials below the 9-3 axis.. only the 1st gen datograph balances this perfectly with th... 

Reason why I prefer the Cormes de Vache. And the big date on the 1st gen Datograph makes a good balance indeed. But I still find the 5170J full of vintage vibe and charm, personally. Best, Emmanuel
