I think it has to do with some insecuities of new collectors...
and it is perfectly normal.
It is afterall their hard earned money that they spend on probably their first expensive watch.
I have to admit that I sometimes do find these threads interesting to read.
It will be really boring to read about technical stuff everyday 
Sooner or later, they will be bored by those 'money' questions too.
Maybe, just maybe....we can have a Monday 'Patek Investment Thread' where everyone can openly talk about it ;-)
So it limits to only one thread a week....hahhaha

Why is it the Patek forum is more and more all about the $$$?
This kind of thing is strictly policed in the other brand forums, yet flourishes here. Cheapens the brand, to be honest.
