Hi, Moses, all,
first of all, I've to say that I'm the one to be blamed for this.
I've not looked after the forum as much as I'd have liked and also should - my sincere apologies for this.
I've been very much tied up in my day to day work which hopefully will change a bit soon.
But perhaps this is a good opportunity to have a discussion about this issue - it certainly would help me to understand a bit better - and hopefully will lead to some clarification about this issue.
I don't see a simple black/white solution here, but perhaps I'm simply wrong
So, just to give some rough points, what does the PuristS community think about some specific points here:
1 - There are those simple requests "what's the US list price for........" - of course the "normal" procedure would be to simply call the AD nearest by and ask, still some like to ask those questions here in the forum. Maybe because it's the more convenient way to do so, but of course I could very well live without those questions
At the same time, even our forum guidelines allow for this questions if answered by email (now that we've a PM function as well this is possible also).
For this reason, it doens't feel "right" to me if I'm simply deleting those requests.
Should our forum guidelines be changed in that regard and if yes how "strict" would you think we should go?
2- The good old "investement value" questions - that's much more difficult and I've to admit, I don't see a simple way to say where is the line here.
3- Auction results and discussions about this - even more diffcicult as this means discussing real numbers as well.....
4- Should I get this ref. or the other more recent successor as it costs much less.....or simply any question asking for a point of view in context with price comparisons.
It's not that easy for me, for many reasons it's far away to be my personal focus - if it's me we could discuss day and night about technical stuff
I'm sure many will be bored after the first day though.
I'm not 100% positive to strictly forbid any price mentioning though - simple, clear rules are good, but please bear iin mind that one also has to able to enforce them, practically without loosing 100% of the time to deal with this
.
Curious also re. the comparison with "more strictly policed other forums ....." - besides the fact that PP hold a very prominent position in "the market" , isn't it some sort of "special attention" which causes the more frequently occuring questions about $$$ here.
Not that I'm satisfied with it that way, but I'm not sure if we shouldn't accept at least a certain amount of discussions like this - adn we're back to the question were to draw the line.
I don't see PP alone for this as well, just think about certain "hot" limited editions by other brands....
I'd very much appreciate your input on that matter!
Best regards
Suitbert
