.....technical superiority is an over-rated issue in my mind. Compare a 993 to a modern Porsche. Most people will take the 993 because it is icoinic and embraces the manufacturer in a way that is diffficult to replicate. It has a Factor X. The modern Porsche just doesn't. The XK 120.....yep...i would take that every day. Technically inferior yet from an ownership perspective, the King.
What the 5070 achieved is a cult status in Patek within 5 years of its production. Very few watches achieve that level when still essentially new watches. The 5170 may well go on to become a cult watch. But at this point, it just isn't.

if we consider the last 5070 price : 34000 euros in France, November 2005 when i bought one , and what it would cost today if still produced, when you know increases of the prices at Patek , 5070 would probably cost around 50000....... ...... and first 51...
