Patek Philippe

Nice and fair review...

... i think you summarized it very well.
There is a point that we do not debate over enough, its how some Patek models make us feel sometimes almost indifferent, and then slowly ( and inevitably ) they start growing on us, until it becomes such an obsession, that we'll only think about how to get them.

I have the 5070R, and i had the chance to play with the 5170J in Paris dealer. I wasn't impressed by the dial ( which is the main thing that interest me, before the movement, or complication ). When i start playing with the chrono and the crown, i had the exact same feeling you've described. You "feel" the movement, its like those 3 dimension video clips that take you inside the movement, you are like flying inside it smile Of course, i read enough about that new in-house chrono. It helped translating the feeling into something almost visual.

Still i couldn't see the watch in natural light. This is a regret as only natural light can give you a real feel, at least for me. All i could do was to get near the tiny window of the shop, but didn't help much. I was wearing a 5960R, and the dial was a million time more interesting IMO. I like when the dial plays with the light, and 5170J felt a bit "dry".... Not a great 1st contact i must admit, even if, like all patek, you never know how this one will grow on me smile)

Anyway, when i went home, and saw my 5070R, i realized how much i'm in love with it. This one is going to be hard to beat.

Now the big question is what to expect with the other metals as this dial doesn't seem easy to modify. This version seems to be the right combo.

Tnx for the review
