you can bet on it, every post about a 5070 is a post I read several times  ;-)

As for the looks, everybody has his own favorites, while I'll prefer the 5070 by far, I'm sure others will prefer the 5170. I also had the chance to 'play' with the 5170 some time ago and I confess, it is great and the pushers are very smooth. Is it better in a technical point of view ? Probably.

I mean, when BMW updates the 5-series people also expect the the newer 5-series will be a bit better than the older 5-series. Why else would the make a new car. But is the most modern and therefore probably the best the most interesting ? Let me choose between a new Jaguar and a XK120 from decades ago.... I'll take the XK120 in a heartbeat. Even when I know the new is probalby the most reliable and the most comfortable.

That said, the only thing I don't like about the 5170 is the price. Today is is twice the price of a 5070 5 years ago. I could accept 30% due to the CHF , gold and inflation ... but 100% more.... ouch ...

I love Patek and it will always be the brand I worship the most but when I look at their prices today, they're not for me anymore. 5 years ago I could convince myself to save, save and save and sell a few other watches to obtain a Patek I really , really love. Today selling other  watches and saving still won't be enough. I'm forced to look at others (read cheaper)

Ofcourse others buy these watches as easy as I would buy a Swatch, and I'm glad  these people share their feelings about these watches with us. But for me they're priced out of the market, my market

On Sunday I had the pleasure of playing with both a 5170j and 5070j at the house of friend of mine who has both, amongst many others. Sorry to disappoint but I didn't manage to take any pictures as I got carried away playing with the pieces! However I tho...

... i think you summarized it very well. There is a point that we do not debate over enough, its how some Patek models make us feel sometimes almost indifferent, and then slowly ( and inevitably ) they start growing on us, until it becomes such an obsessi...

i do agree, both 5070 and 5170 are great watches , but CH 29-535 PS movement with instanteanously jumping minute is to die for and 5170 yellow gold finish is stunning ... i love mine and appreciate its perfect size , legibility , timeless elegance , tradi...

if we consider the last 5070 price : 34000 euros in France, November 2005 when i bought one , and what it would cost today if still produced, when you know increases of the prices at Patek , 5070 would probably cost around 50000....... ...... and first 51...

but we reach much different conclusions. Both among the best of chronos, but I find the tactile pleasure of the crown and pushers much greater on the 5070 than the 5170. Aesthetically I also much prefer the 5070, even though the 42 mm size pushes the limi...

Thanks for posting. It's interesting to read your impressions, especially since you had the chance to play with both at the same time. Refreshing, because they go against the initial resonce from many. I've seen the watch on a couple of occasions but not ...
