Patek Philippe

My final conclusion...

As the author of this post, I thought it only fair to thoroughly consider my answer. I spent ALOT of time mulling this over and enjoyed the process immensely, although some of my regular AD's would tell you otherwise πŸ˜€

It seems the majority favour the 5370P by a country mile!!! I am generally an anti-conformist so my instinct was to disagree or at least find a logical argument to keep the debate lively. However in this instance I have to agree.....I find the black enamel dial with white gold Breguet numerals too hard to resist. The movement is equally intoxicating, the case finishing and proportions are divine. There is no doubt this is the best of the TS collection thus far, a legend in the making.

The 5372P is a very close second for me, despite being a more complicated timepiece. Personally I really enjoy the harmonious blue dial and beautifully balanced symmetry. I find the 38.3mm case size for such a grand complication very impressive. The proportions are classic PP, but it doesn't work in the metal for some reason. I have a small issue with the cut off numbers. The movement is equally intoxicating, but due to the smaller rear window the journey is not as enjoyable as the 5370P.

Such an exercise allows one to objectively consider all aspects of each timepiece, what surprised me most was my conclusion towards the 5204P (all dials). After comparing against the aforementioned timepieces, I found myself disillusioned by the 5204P. I respect the movement immensely, but aesthetically it has been let down and I regret to report it has been struck off my wish list. The proportions do not work for me despite trying it on several times over different times in all metals. I find the superluminova markers sacrilege on a model of this caliber, I really really tried to forgive them but alas one cannot at this level...the off-centre sub-dials although cleaner than say the 5270, are just disproportionate and lazy. One thing to positively highlight is the finishing. The 5204 case and movement are finished to an incredible standard, it is evident in the platinum models, but better illustrated in the rose gold model. I have always been mesmerised by the finishing of A Lange & Sohne, but Patek at this level is very impressive.
