Patek Philippe

I managed to take some decent macros of these 2 modern PP World Time, which are, IMO, the nicest World Time of the actual production. The question is what is the most desirable between these 2 references... Well, it's not about the movement, as the Calibe...  

of the Guillochage. The Sunburst Dial doesn´t do it for me. Only the feeling of the pusher kept me away (so far) to get one. It was my first impression when I handled it and still can´t forget it. Always have to try it, when I get one in my hands ... :-( ... 

But this is such a wonderful watch... Can't live with? Really? Best, Nicolas

to start, the extra 2 mm is very important to me ! Concerning the dial, I'm not a big fan of guilloché dials and I love the hour hand of the 5130

...plus, I like to travel "light"... I assume the 5110 weighs in at a bit less than the 5130 :^)

If you compare a 5110P to a 5130G or R, the platinum makes the 5110 a bit heavier... But when you love, you don't count... the weight! Best, Nicolas

Both are beautiful watches. I will not consider the 5110 because it is too small on my wrist but a beautiful watch it is. Otherwise I too am fan of the 5130 because of that hand.. Since my early days around watches I often looked at those Vintage World ti...

Great post. Patek makes the best true worldtimer, tradition and innovation. I like 5130, but love 5110!

Can't agree more about what you said on the best WT. As POY said, if I fell in love with PP watches, it is because of the World Time, of its original and elegant design and complication. I feel like a child each time I admire its dial. Now, like you said ... 

It's not a world timer per say, since it can only show two different timezones at once, but it does have a GMT differential. A bit of a pain to set actually. You really have to read the owner's manual on that one. But if you know what country you are goin... 

I love all the Patek Worldtimers, especially because they have the 240 caliber movement which exhibits a very high degree of finishing. However, in different metals, I prefer different world timers... Yellow gold; I've only seen it in the 5110 and not 513... 

Agree on the YG 5110. As for the WG, don't know what would be my favourite, as the color of the center of the dial is quite the same than the one on the outer dial, so, even if the dimensions have changed on the 5130, it is not easily noticeable... As for...

Finally decided on the 5130g. Personally I feel that the cities are a bit cramp for 5110 and also the hands are a bit short thus affecting its legibility. I like the 5130 scissor hands as it resembles the vintage worldtimer and overall more readible. The ... 

That's perfectly sums the problem, cmclee! I love that formula. I guess that the thing is to get one, whatever it is a 5110 or 5130, as PP WT are true references in regard of World Timer Watches. Best, Nicolas

If only these bloody engravings Patek Philippe Geneve at 12 and 6 didn't exist, as well as the curious font used for the cities of the world... It would have been THE PP WT for me too! A Pity because the Combo of the white gold case and the Blue enamel di... 

Hi Nicolas, funny nobody seems to like the font and the engraving.I don't mind at all,on the contrary,very nice font and the engravings,well why not. esp.the white gold one for me after the celestial the most beautiful patek,a shame almost no one will get... 

I can't tell from your post if you have a 5131G? I'm guessing not. The engraving at 6 and 12 o'clock is simply NOT a problem. It's very well done and not as the website pictures would suggest. It's very discrete and you have to actually hold the watch at ... 

i prefer it due to its size and most of all the hands. while we're on the subject, does anybody else find that the 5110 makes a "clunky" noise when the button is pressed and consequently makes the feel a bit "cheap"?...or have i just been unlucky whenever...

This is not what I'd call the same feeling as a Lange Dato pusher sensation. It is quite the same, also, on the JLC Master World Geographique. Seems that it is due to the Commplication. Best, Nicolas

I have to say, these two watches do have different personalities, and you do a great job defining them. In many ways, the ideal watch is a mixture between the two. But, since no such watch exists one must trade-off. I prefer the dial on the 5110, but agre... 

It is quite easy:  If you like the scissors hands of the 5130 buy a pair and have the hands on the 5110 replaced - keep them for spares or for later resale - if you were able to part  I personally decided for 5110P and do not regret at all! The 2 mm less ... 

To put 5130 Hour hand on a 5110, Erich... Would be interesting to try to have an official answer... Best, Nicolas

Hi Nicolas, I would try to buy a pair of 5130 hands through a local AD and have them replaced locally. They should fit perfectly as they are for the same movement and I think even the proportions will fit nicely. I too doubt if the hands were replaced whe... 

Well, I was thinking a bit the same... The perfect WT would have the dial and the dimensions of the 5110, with the cissoirs hour hand of the 5130... To me, at least. Best, Nicolas

Although I am not usually drawn to a bigger size, this one is an exception to the rule. On the practical side, the bigger dial allows more space between the countries. From the bottom of "Moscow to the bottom of Dubai", the "leading" is a little more spac... 

You're right about the sunburst finish of the 5130 dial... It is opening the dial a bit more, making it a bit bigger than it already is. After, this is a matter of taste..Sunburst or guilloché... To each his own. The good thing is that you can't go w... 

Thanks for describing it. The "sunburst" dial and the less cluttered dial make the watch feel "lighter". In WG/PT it has a nice, April-spring-breeze taste to it, think of how the air smells in Airolo once you have made the journey over the Gotthard pass. ... 

The sunburst could also be on a modern mid-market watch (think: Mont Blanc etc). But I am growing fonder and fonder of the 5130, contrary to my initial stance.

But the case is 2, 5 mm bigger! That is the most important " issue " for me. But it is just me. If you feel happy with the 5130, that is the most important. Best, Nicolas

5110 for several reasons, here I will list a few: - I like the 39mm size on 5130, but dislike that the center dial remained the same and only the outer ring with cities changed - 5110 - quilloche dial rocks ...the sunburst is not even lose to me in its lo...  

The 4 or 5 last pics are just specatular. I feel exactly the same about my 5110, but the only difference is that I madly fell in love with, and that it's even a deeper love with Time. Each Time I wear this watch, I feel the same. Admiration, Passion, and ... 

And of course, nice 5110J, it matches perfectly with the Montblanc pen on the matte black strap.

It reminds me of the golden era of valve tube radios, think Grundig, Telefunken et al. And surprisingly it does not have this ridiculous "retro" affection like the recently unveiled new Rolex Cellini. It is a tasteful yet slightly eccentric reference to P... 

Generated quite a reaction! Its been interesting to read everybodies views on the differences of the two models. But I am afraid that I shall have to remain on the fence, as I am undecided as to whiche one I would choice.

the first Platinum WT my AD received -- Traded the 5110P after the reference was discontinued several years later for a BNIB 5130P plus $ xxx with the same AD I originally purchased from. With all these 5110 vs. 5130 posts, I wonder now did I trade up or ... 

I think that each of these models has its pros and cons, the perfect WT being a blend of the 2, perhaps? What I strongly believe is that each fan of the 5110 or of the 5130 has his good reasons to support his champion. It's, at the end, a question of wris...

I love the 'sicssors hand' of the 5130 (never heard it referred to as that)...although I admit I prefer the guilloche dial of the 5110...the tie breaker is the extra 2mm... the winner is...:...  

I have to admit that this scissor Hour Hand is to die for. Then, the problem is really the interface between the wrist and the watch, and sometimes, indeed, 2mm more is better... Happy to see you still in Honeymoon woith this WT! Best, Nicolas

It's strange. When I saw that PP was on to release a new WT, I jumped on it. I saw it before, and I fell in love with the scissor hour hand. The dial of the 5130 was less impressive than on the 5110, but the bigger size, and this hour hand convinced me to...

For one reason only: The scissor hands. Its a reference to the first models of the worldtime from Patek. Both are great- and I think that the worldtime is a Icon from Patek and perhaps the complication which is among the most useful- especially if you tra... 

As, with the Rolex, you can cover all the timezones, in one gesture. Not that easy with the Patek, when it comes to summertime, which is not adopted by all the countries ( russia, for example, I think ). Best, Nicolas

The major problem of the 5130 or 31 is that the case got 2, 5 mm extra millimeters, but the size of the dial remains the same... Which creates a less harmonious view on the overall watch, I think. But this enamel dial is really something! Best, Nicolas.

Among all the current options, 5110 remains the most harmonious and beautiful one for me. My strong preference is, however, the platin version with silvery blue central dial.

Although I tend to see the 5130p as the ultimate world timer due to a. size, b. scissor hands and c. dial\'s ability to bring light and various shades of blue, if given the chance to purchase one of them, I would spend a considerable amount of time before...
