Thanks to everyone for all your responses.
This watch was one of the first ones available from the dealer all the way back in 2012.
So perhaps there have been some glitches which have been ironed out over the last 4 years.
Hopefully after the next service the issues will resolve.

I am so sorry to hear about this.
I have had my 5270G (the blue chin) for over 3 years now. Fortunately, I have not encountered any such problems. I don't really have an answer or a solution, but I feel your pain.

Maybe Patek will provide updated parts during service
I sometimes see bulletins from manufacturers for specific parts to be swapped out with newer (read: better-functioning) versions. I hope the new service gives you many years of problem-free usage.
