Patek Philippe Ref. 5105P-001 & its background
Created in 2006 to celebrate the reopening of Patek Phillipeβs historical salon in the heart of Geneva after renovation, the ref. 5105P-001 (or simply 5105) is a modern interpretation of and tribute to the ref. 492 from the 1930s.
A totally overlooked masterpiece, about which
amanico shared his
thoughts and beautiful photos three years ago, but which has rarely been mentioned on this site.
The
platinum case measures
35 x 46 mm and the
100 pieces of this limited edition are powered by some vintage examples of
calibre 9-90, which are said to have been discovered in an old wooden chest before the watchmaking department moved to Plan-les-Ouates in 1996 (this story is mentioned by
DCC in his thread dedicated to
The Patek Philippe shaped calibers).
Furthermore, the tooling for the manufacturing of the case were discarded so Patek Phillipe would never remake this case shape again.
Best, Emmanuel
