I measured my large-sized Apple Watch - 38 mm wide. The Cubitus is as wide as an Apple Watch Ultra (44 mm wide)

Setting the date with the crown requires more changes to the base movement. Patek's complications are highly modular and self-contained, which allows them to mix and match. For example, Patek has only had one (1) repeater base movement since 1989.

They can remix elements to create a lot more options, plus it increases overall production, so better availability.
The one thing that 'might' have made this more palatable to me...
