Patek Philippe

Rolex has no consistent values? Some respectful disagreements.

 

Regarding this paragraph:

"Don't get me wrong I'm sick of Rolex branding and positioning and screaming loud designs and cliched ubiquitousness. Despite owning three, I eschew them now. They just can't behave in public. They are destined for a great fall. In my opinion Rolex has no consistent philosophy, no clear and consistent set of values. "

I have to say I strongly disagree. Rolex has incredible consistency with their watches.  They are all about making reliable, rugged, simple, waterproof, practical watches that they have done so for years with only minor changes.  There is nothing wrong with the watches they make, and to say that you eschew them now presumably because they're overdone ("screaming loud designs"), overly popular (cliched ubiquitousness), is like saying that I won't buy a BMW 3 series car not based on its virtues, but simply because there are too many of them on the road.  

One day, you'll find Patek Philippe to be overly popular, worn by a crowd where the vast majority admire it only for its branding and positioning as one of the top brands.  More and more are buying it not because of its vir  If one day, Patek Philippe was the go-to brand of newly minted millionaires.  Will you eschew Patek Philippe at this point?
