Patek Philippe

Thank you for sharing the info

I think it is for good.

In fact, at first, the watches should never have been sold in their burgundy travel box from Patek Philippe's policy. Some retailers created the problem and people looking for reselling with a profit (without wearing the watch) appreciated it of course.

The additional premium is linked with the impression it has never been worn. Aside from the fact I think there will still be ways to check that with the brand, it will stop the "hype" of thinking a sealed box is more than that (btw, you can reseal a plastic and make another sticker quite easily). Using a position (to be able to get one) to resell at an excessive price is something I don't accept personally, even if this is not linked with the box directly, it just adds a premium as I said.

I would say, nothing wrong with that, as everyone is free to do whatever he wants with what he has acquired. The problem is more annoying when it comes to limited editions, limited volumes (Platinum...) where this was made to the detriment of potential clients who were going to wear them. This is frustrating.

However, in the end, it is a choice: brands can allow this "sealed box" issue in order to provide an investment product or they can decide clients buy watches to wear them and that they shouldn't modify their package to satisfy the investors who store and sell them.

As a brand, the watches should be sold in a proper case as the beautiful Patek one is. As a wearer, I would like the brand to do just that.

Of course, brands have to earn their living and if some buyers act like investors and, as a consequence, fund the brand's operations, especially during difficult times, I imagine it is defendable too (and not really linked with the travel box).

Thus, the only reason why I think it is good is because I like to see watches worn and I don't like seeing watches in such boxes for aesthetical reasons. But the other position is fine too as it only brings a little additional value as a kind of clue about it has maybe never been worn.

The real subject is that it is just frustrating to apply for a watch to wear it and see that someone else who is not going to wear it could have it. But nothing to do with the box finally...

If this is confirmed as beein applicable worldwide, I think it is good news.

Best, Mark
