Patek Philippe

The only tradition meaningful to me, as mentioned previously,

relates to Patek's ability to repair any watch they have ever produced.

Beyond that, the term is very general and holds a different meaning to each of us.  Unquestionably, it seems to be heavily influenced by marketing and develops a perception... which is both pleasing and an idea of what we would want to believe it truly is.

Predictability may be a better term to describe my perception of tradition as it relates to Patek and until about 2000, I believe they were very consistent. Since then, however, the landscape has changed rather dramatically and the predictability has changed as well, from manufacturing to management.

There is a saying"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend." then your perception of the dream stays intact. I would think Rolex is the absolute master of this but Patek has seemed to have done the same... in a much shorter period of time.

What is the definition of a traditional Patek for me? A good question. When you think of Rolex or AP, your mind comes to think of one or two pieces. With Patek, it's different. They have made so many models that I don't know if you could pick just one or two pieces. Some might think of a Calatrava, but which one? A Nautilus? I don't consider it to be their signature piece. Ellipse? Gondolo? Flights of Fancy?  Probably any piece with the signature, Patek Philippe, Geneve.

Great post Jerome.
