It must not be forgotten that such watches are not water- or dust-proof.
F.P. Journe's steel repeater is water-proof, as the manufacturer is saying, but I am not in the position to test it, unfortunatelly.
Also: the wire design for the gong is very much different to the classic circular wires.
Platinum is actually harder than gold, but as 18 k gold is an alloy, and RG contains copper, that is quite hard, it should be the reason why RG has good sound transmission qualities.
The best has steel as it contains chrome and cobalt and especially chrome is very hard.

Definitely the acme of Patek Horology
If my wife would allow me to re-mortgage my house I would not hesitate to fill in the form for one! BTW, word goes that WG/RG would give you the best timber for the minute repeater, platinum would be too stiff for a perfect sound. Cheers, Larry
