patek philippe 5016 tourbillon minute repeater.
I have been surfing the web and just stumbled across not 1 but 2 5016's up for auction on the Christies website in New York on the 16th of June. This is my favourite patek model because so many complications are housed in a simple, yet beautiful caseing.I saw this model when I visited the Patek museum last year. One of the models for sale has the production number 1905 001(the one in the museum is 1905 000).Is this particular model being discontinued and are they as rare as stated???

i believe for this piece to be acquired "new" you need to be approved by Mr. Theirry Stern. If Mr. Stern deems you to be an appropriate collector, then you are allowed to purchase the watch. A whole application process must occur with an authorized dealer...

There are rumours that the 5016 will be discontinued very soon. The entire production run would have been in the region of 200 pieces. One can therefore conclude that either of these watches is extremely rare. A few years ago, if I had been asked the ques...
Metals and sound!
By: Dje : May 22nd, 2010-06:05
Hi, There are several theories about the sound and the metal of the case but AFAIK pink gold has often been recognized as the best sounding precious metal. Titanium and steel have been also recognized as sounding very well, if not better than pink gold (A...
Different Case Metals

I sure I am right in saying that in the ref 5016 the movement caliber and the minute repeter mechanism are identical. The gongs strike the circular wires attached to the movement, which creates the sound. The resulting sound passes through the metal case,...
Very right

The case does not create the sound, it is just transmitting it, as well as the saphire glas and the aperture for the lever to active the repeater. It must not be forgotten that such watches are not water- or dust-proof. F.P. Journe's steel repeater is wat...
5016 movement numbers
By: malcolm : May 24th, 2010-07:51
The mysterious world of Patek Philippe conforms to little else that I know of. I suppose this is why it is such a wonderful enigma. Patek reserve series of numbers for their more special watches so that each of the tourbillion movements are numbered depen...
