Introduced in 2021 , manual wind caliber 30-255 PS replaced the much smaller caliber 215 PS , which had, according to some collectors, the drawback of requiring the seconds' sub-dial to be placed too high on the dial (as in ref. 5196P: see the photo down ...  

I'll personally wait until I'm able to try it on. I tried both variants of the 6119 at different occasions and the straight lugs didn't fit my wrist very well unfortunately. So I'm curious to see how this one would fit on my wrist. Best, Emmanuel

But since it's more appealing to me than the 6119 or 5119, and seems like an unambiguous upgrade on the 5196, that still makes it "the best Calatrava in a generation."

rather than sword hands, but I understand what you mean. I've tried on both variants of the 6119 and the hands wasn't what bothered me: rather the fit on the wrist (not ideal for mine) and the architecture of the caliber (I really dislike the rounded shap... 

...I wish is was as thin as the 6119...

I think it would be a hard choice up against the 5196P. I probably would pick the latter. Had the 6196P come with Breguet numerals it surely would have pushed the 6196P over the top. And perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm not a fan of the movement layou... 

Despite its 37 mm, the 5196P unfortunately didn't fit my wrist when I tried it on back in 2021, because of its very straight lugs. And the same happened with both 6119s. So, I wonder if this one could be a better fit for me (the important dimension for me...

I agree, I like the lines of the 215 movement, very old-school, reminiscent of a pocket watch movement. The one thing I like about the 5196P is that the sub dial does not cut so harshly into the nuemrals. Of course the 6196P is quite nice too!

but it was really too small for most modern watches with a diameter over 36 mm. As for the Breguet numerals, I think they should be an option, but I personally prefer the stick indexes here: it suits the “less is more” aesthetic better for me, But it’s a ... 

because Patek has used this design (anthracite hand and indexes with salmon dial) for other models (5270P & 5236P) and it works perfectly apparently.

and I’d love to get one someday but I still prefer the 5196P which I proudly own. I never understood the criticism of the subdial placement, I always found it perfect where it was as it does not cut into the 6 numeral.

of not cutting into the 6. But once you’re aware that this layout is less a real choice than a constraint imposed by the small size of the caliber (which wasn’t designed for cases over 34 mm), I personally find that it becomes difficult to ignore it. But ... 

Love the watch. It would be nice to know the lug to lug for the 6196 and the 6119 as well.

By far the most attractive simple Calatrava Patek has produced in years. Now, this being Patek, they couldn’t help themselves but make it in platinum, to make sure not to leave any money on the table. Basically, models people want in steel they make in go...

6196P was pick of the bunch for me this year. But I did wonder what if Breguets instead of the batons? Room for an updated version, I guess. David

Finally a worthy manual winding 3 hander from Patek. Although I think silver hands and hr indices would look better this such a classic watch.. the anthracite is a tad too sporty Also I may prefer a 20mm lug to lug for a 38mm case, but need to see this on... 

is a combination used by Patek in other models (5270P & 5236P for example) and I personally think it works quite well. As for the lug width, I haven't seen it specified, so I don't know if it's 20 mm or 19 or 21... Best, Emmanuel

I measured it using the press pictures (sized the pic so that the watch diameter is 38 and then measured the lug width)

I absolutely love it. At least in these photos. The size is perfect. Platinum with salmon is pure class. I’m a sucker for center seconds. And that movement is absolutely ridiculous. The only Patek from WW that I may like more is the calatrava 8 day…

But on further reading, a bit disappointed that the new caliber has almost no additional function compared to the rectangle caliber of 5200, perhaps there’s no more faux bridge….

Remind me of the 5212a. As mentioned, I would have preferred breguet numerals but it is really nice to see a 6196 released. I will wait and see what the G looks like. I would like to see a nice steel brushed dial or something special like a black or dark ... 

I will be waiting for the next iterations too. But I first need to see how this new case fits on my wrist. And I'm still not fond of the 30-255 PS caliber's design/architecture. Best, Emmanuel

I prefer to reserve my judgment until I see it in real life. The 5196 also looked good on paper but didn’t fit my wrist at all.

...and I'm not convinced at all. Not a fan of salmon in general and the black indicies don't do it for me. The 37mm case of the 5196 is just perfect. It's just 1mm more but due to the slim case the watch wears quite large

The 5196P doesn't fit my wrist unfortunately, due to the long straight lugs. And I wonder if the 6196P will be any better. As for the salmon dial/black indexes, I think I feel like you: not necessarily a major fan of them. Best, Emmanuel
