The world probably falls into three groups:
Those who must have the best, latest, most-est of the genre.
Those who actively avoid the crowd favourite.
Those who don't care but go with their heart/eyes/ears.

I think the extra "complication" challenge of making ultra thin movements and cases just shows the extra prowess of Piaget as an original watchmaker before they added jewellery to their skill-set.
Anyone can make chunky movements with modern machinery but adjusting thin watches is still an art.
For striking watches, the old adage Volume equals Sound still holds so they achieve volume while maintain thin-ness. The bonus is a large dial for decoration and more diamonds (if you wish).
