But perhaps the real scandal is that self-described audiophiles were so fooled.
I was part of the audiophile community for a while, many years ago. I spent vast sums on equipment. It was fun, but when $10K in upgrades can squeeze out only a 1% improvement, my personal law of diminishing returns says "no more". And much of the audio gear world is selling differences, not necessarily improvement. Make your equipment sound different and decent and you will have a market. So we have audiophiles arguing over subjective differences/preferences rather than objectively better gear/sound. This audiophile mentality also becomes very detached from music as the ultimate goal.
In the end, like many vanity pursuits (ahem!), so much of audiophilia became figurative autophilia, fantasy and all.

In a way yes it is a disgrace yet at the same time you have to wonder, if so many people got fooled and couldn't tell the difference there is a bigger problem in that hobby.

In fact it is a known fact that some record companies use digital resources.
That did not surprise me. Streaming in high quality can give very satisfying results, that is the way I choose for my listening sessions.

I am really shocked as an audiophile. I have spent a significant amount of money on my equipment and sourcing MoFi vinyls.
