Thank you, Art, for a great post.
You know, I often lament not living in older times. No phones, tv, social media, computers - that would have suited me just fine.
Of course, I never would have known you and everyone else here in our great Community. So that makes me happy to be here now. But since our communications are all electronic, and not verbal, they don't always come across the way we mean them to. So I do support being sensitive to what words are on the screen prior to hitting "insert". If you think some one might be offended, better to not post the comment.
That said, I also fully endorse having thick skin. My Dad has so many great expressions. One of my favorites is also one of the simplest: "Consider the source". No need to let some random comment on a computer screen ruin your day. I really don't care what anyone calls me, especially online. This world has become waaaaaay too PC.
But generally, let's all be good to each other, and remember we are here for watches. Comedy hour can be found elsewhere.

Part of the problem for our site and the moderators is precisely the tendency to consider all here . . .
. . . as friends. I'll crack a joke when I'm around pals I've known for a long time, but our online community here is global and partly anonymous.
In principle I have no issue with humorous postings.
But the caution is merited. Having spent a number of years in the worlds of diplomacy and international relations, my experience is that one of the most difficult commodities to transport across borders is humour.
