Zenith

Good bye Aldo!!!

I'll give Aldo credit for taking Zenith away from the previous disco bling position they occupied. That being said Rolling Stone and Cohiba models were equally bizarre. I think Aldo was doing some good things but the latest Tipo 2 launch was a great example of what was utterly lacking. That historic piece should have been sold out six months before it ever reached retailers. Instead the marketing geniuses at Zenith ignore what's left of their battered base and impose an "information embargo" on the piece. In fact I had been in touch with Zenith multiple times well before the watch hit stores and they flat out denied the watch was even going to be built. That's AFTER me telling them I saw a damn video of Aldo talking about the piece at Basil!! You don't get many chances to recreate a historic peace... only for ten of a thousand pieces to end up on Chrono 24 for thousands off list price. He had the right idea. His execution was bush league. Most manufactures would kill to have a historic and storied movement. Zenith is a good example of that simply not being enough.
JB has the chops to bring the history AND combine the marketing and enough market tease to jump start this machine.
I have a Doublematic. I love the history of the brand. The lack of leadership or sustained clear direction over the past ten years has crushed any chances of Zenith reaching anywhere near their potential. They have to earn their former base back with getting real with pricing. They are not Rolex. They are not AP. They are not VC. Strip this thing down and get real.
